Eligibility Criteria – SSB Head Constable 2026

Candidates must possess the prescribed educational/professional qualifications as on the closing date of the application.

Head Constable (Steward)	12th pass from a recognised Board + 2 Years Diploma in Catering and Kitchen Management + Minimum 1 year working experience as Steward in a 100‑bedded hospital/institution.
Head Constable (Communication)	12th pass in Science with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics OR 3 years Diploma in Electronics / Communications / Computer Science / IT from a recognised Institute.
Head Constable (Electrician)	Matriculation (10th) from a recognised Board + 2 years work experience OR 1 year ITI/Vocational certificate with 1 year experience OR 2 years ITI Diploma in respective trade.
Head Constable (Veterinary)	12th pass with Science and Biology + 2 years Diploma Course in Veterinary and Livestock Development / Veterinary Stock Assistant / Animal Husbandry.

Age Limit & Salary Structure

Selection Process – SSB Recruitment 2026

Stage 1: Physical Efficiency Test (PET) & Physical Standard Test (PST)
• PET: Male - 1.6 Km run in 6 Minutes 30 Seconds | Female - 800 Meter race in 4 minutes. (Ex-Servicemen exempted from PET).
• PST: Candidates will be measured for Height and Chest. For UR/EWS/OBC Males: 165 cm height & 75–80 cm chest. For Females (Steward): 155 cm height. Relaxations apply for SC/ST/NE/J&K candidates.

Stage 2: Written Examination (Computer Based Test - CBT)
Common Entrance Test of 3 hours duration, consisting of 150 objective-type questions (150 marks).
• Part-I (50 Marks): General Knowledge, Maths, Reasoning, General English/Hindi.
• Part-II (100 Marks): Technical Subject related to the trade.
Qualifying marks: 50% for Gen/EWS/OBC; 45% for SC/ST.

Stage 3: Skill Test (For Head Constable Electrician Only)
Conducted for candidates up to 20 times the vacancies. It carries 50 marks (qualifying marks: 60% for all categories). It is strictly qualifying in nature; marks won't be added to the final merit list.

Stage 4: Document Verification (DV) & Detailed Medical Exam (DME)
Candidates shortlisted up to 3 times the vacancies will be called for document checking and a thorough Medical/Review Medical Examination (RME).

Read the detailed advertisement carefully. A candidate can apply for only one post among the notified trades.
Fill in all application fields accurately: Post applied, Name, Father's Name, DOB, Category, Educational details, and Identity Document Number (like Aadhaar Card, Voter ID, etc.).
Upload a recent passport-size color photograph (JPG format, 4KB to 12KB, white background, 75% face visible).
Upload your scanned signature (JPG format, 4KB to 12KB).
Proceed to the payment gateway to pay the ₹100/- application fee (if applicable) via Net Banking, Debit/Credit Card, or UPI.
Click on "Submit" and note down the generated Registration Number.
Print the final application form/acknowledgement for future reference. No hard copies need to be sent by post.

SSB Head Constable Recruitment 2026 – FAQs

Can I apply for more than one Head Constable trade?

No. According to the official notification, a candidate can apply for only ONE post from amongst the posts mentioned.

Is there a running test (PET) for female candidates?

Yes. For female candidates, the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) requires completing an 800 Meter race within 4 minutes.

Do I need to send a hard copy of the application form?

No. Applications must be submitted through Online Mode only. Hard copies sent via post will be rejected straightway.

Is the Skill Test conducted for all posts?

No. The Skill Test (Trade Test) is strictly conducted only for the Head Constable (Electrician) post and is qualifying in nature.

SSB 2026 – Important Instructions (Prevent Form Rejection!)

Ensure you strictly follow these guidelines to avoid application cancellation:

Single Application Rule: Submit an application for ONE post only. Submitting multiple applications for different trades will lead to immediate cancellation of your candidature.
Photo & Signature Formatting: Your uploaded photo must have a white background with 75% of your face clearly visible. Keep the file sizes strictly between 4 KB and 12 KB in JPG format. Blurred images will lead to rejection.
Match Your Certificates: Ensure your Name, Father's Name, and Date of Birth match EXACTLY with your 10th Class (Matriculation) certificate. Discrepancies found during Document Verification will disqualify you.
Biometric Verification: Be prepared for biometric verification (Left & Right thumb impressions) at all stages of the recruitment process. Ensure your hands are clean and free of henna/ink during tests.
