Selection Process & Exam Pattern – SSC Stenographer 2026
The CBT will consist of 200 Objective Type Multiple Choice questions (200 marks) to be completed in 2 Hours.
• Part I: General Intelligence & Reasoning (50 Qs / 50 Marks)
• Part II: General Awareness (50 Qs / 50 Marks)
• Part III: English Language and Comprehension (100 Qs / 100 Marks)
Important: There is a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.
Candidates shortlisted from the CBT will undergo a Skill Test. You will receive one dictation for 10 minutes.
• Grade 'C': 100 words per minute (w.p.m.). Transcription time: 40 mins (English) or 55 mins (Hindi).
• Grade 'D': 80 words per minute (w.p.m.). Transcription time: 50 mins (English) or 65 mins (Hindi).
Conducted directly by the User Departments/Organizations. Final selection and allocation of Ministries will be based on CBT performance and the Post Preferences exercised online.
How to Apply Online at ssc.gov.in
- Visit the new official SSC portal: ssc.gov.in or download the "my SSC" mobile app.
- If you haven't registered on the new website yet, complete your One-Time Registration (OTR). OTRs from the old portal (ssc.nic.in) are not functional. Complete Aadhaar authentication if available.
- Log in with your Registration Number and Password. Navigate to "Stenographer Grade 'C' & 'D' Examination-2026" under the Live Exams tab.
- Fill in the form, select whether you are applying for Grade 'C', Grade 'D', or both, and choose your medium of Skill Test (English/Hindi).
- Live Photo Capture: You MUST capture your photograph live using a webcam or the mobile app. Do not wear a cap, mask, or spectacles.
- Upload your scanned signature (10 to 20 KB in JPEG format).
- Review the preview carefully, submit the form, and proceed to pay the ₹100 application fee online (if not exempted). Download the printed application for your records.

SSC Stenographer 2026 – Important Instructions (Prevent Form Rejection!)
Ensure you adhere strictly to the following guidelines:
- Live Photo Rules: You MUST capture your photograph live through your device camera or the "my SSC" app. No spectacles, masks, or caps are allowed. Ensure proper lighting. Capturing an image of an existing printed photo is strictly prohibited.
- New OTR Required: Candidates must generate a new One-Time Registration (OTR) on the updated SSC portal (ssc.gov.in).
- Correction Window: If you make any error, utilize the "Window for Application Form Correction" from 20 May to 21 May 2026. A fee of ₹200 applies for the first correction and ₹500 for the second.
- Skill Test Language: Candidates who opt to take the Stenography Test in Hindi will be required to learn English Stenography and vice versa after their appointment.
