Educational Qualification (60% marks; 55% for SC/ST/PwBD)
- Generalist: Graduate / Post Graduate in any stream.
- Finance: CA (ICAI) or CMA (ICMAI) and graduation/PG in any discipline.
- Legal: Graduate / Post Graduate in Law.
- IT: B.E./B.Tech/M.E./M.Tech in CS/IT, or MCA.
- Automobile Engineers: B.E./B.Tech/M.E./M.Tech in Automobile Engineering, or any engineering degree plus a diploma (min. 1 year) in Automobile Engineering.
- Risk Engineers: Engineering degree/PG in any discipline other than CS/IT and Automobile.
- Company Secretaries: ACS/FCS from ICSI and graduation/PG in any discipline.
- Agriculture: 4-year graduate / PG in Agriculture, Agricultural Biotechnology or Agricultural Engineering.
Age Limit (as on 01 October 2026)
21–30 years – born not earlier than 02.10.1996 and not later than 01.10.2005. Upper age relaxation: SC/ST 5 years, OBC (NCL) 3 years, PwBD 10/13/15 years (Gen-EWS/OBC/SC-ST), eligible ex-servicemen/ECOs/SSCOs 5 years, disabled defence personnel 3 years, confirmed PSU general insurance employees 8 years (maximum age 45 with cumulative relaxation).
Salary
Starting basic pay ₹82,485 in the scale 82485-4050(14)-139185-4390(4)-156745. Total emoluments are about ₹1,14,000 per month in metropolitan centres, plus NPS pension, gratuity, medical benefits and company/leased accommodation as per norms.

One-fourth of the marks of a question is deducted for each wrong answer in the objective tests.
Selection Process
- Phase I Preliminary exam – about 15 times the vacancies (category-wise) shortlisted for the Main exam.
- Phase II Main exam (objective + descriptive) – sectional and overall cut-offs; qualified candidates called for interview.
- Final merit on Main exam and Interview in the ratio 80:20. A waiting list of up to 50% of vacancies may be kept.
- Selected officers serve a 1-year probation (extendable) and must pass the Licentiate exam of the Insurance Institute of India; a 4-year service bond applies.
