The High Court of Andhra Pradesh at Amaravati has issued Notification No. 118/2026-RC dated 25 September 2026 for 119 Civil Judge (Junior Division) posts in the Andhra Pradesh State Judicial Service under the AP State Judicial (Service and Cadre) Rules, 2026. 96 posts are by direct recruitment and 23 by recruitment by transfer. Recruitment by transfer – 23: Open Competition 18, SC Group-I 1, SC Group-III 1, ST 3. BC-E selection is subject to Civil Appeal Nos. 2628-2637/2010 in the Supreme Court. The High Court may change the vacancy or cancel the notification.
Eligibility
Direct recruitment: Law graduates who obtained the law degree within the preceding one year as on the notification date, following Bhumika Trust vs Union of India (WP(C) 1110/2025, 21 August 2026), pending amendment of the 2026 rules. Good character is required. Direct recruitment means the person is not already in Government of India or State service.
Recruitment by transfer: A law degree from a university established by law in India, and confirmed-member or approved-probationer status in an eligible category (listed High Court posts, District Judiciary ministerial posts, APP/Addl. PP grades, Section Officers in the Law and Legislature Departments, and managers in the offices of the Advocate General, Government Pleaders and Public Prosecutors, and the Editor, ILR). Persons facing disciplinary charges or under punishment are not eligible.
Age Limit (as on 1 September 2026)
Direct recruitment: must not have completed 35 years. Relaxation: SC/ST, BC and EWS 5 years; persons with benchmark disabilities 10 years; defence service is excluded from the age computation. Recruitment by transfer: must not have completed 48 years. Minimum age is not stated in the notification summary.
Pay
Regular pay scale ₹77,840–1,36,520. Selected candidates are first Trainee Judicial Officers: one year at the Judicial Academy on half the remuneration of a Civil Judge (Junior Division), then one year of Law Clerkship on the same emoluments. Exam Pattern
Screening CBT: 100 MCQs, 100 marks, 2 hours. Candidates at 40% and above are shortlisted about 1:10. Screening marks are not added to the final merit.

Answers are in English except the translation test. Paper III needs 40% in each part and is not counted for viva eligibility or selection. Viva voce is 50 marks. Merit uses Paper I, Paper II and viva.

Civil: CPC, Contract Act, Hindu Marriage and Succession Acts, Easements, Specific Relief, Limitation, Transfer of Property, Civil Rules of Practice, Registration and Stamp Acts, AP Land Encroachment Act, Evidence Act and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam 2023.
Criminal: CrPC, IPC, Evidence Act, BNSS, BNS, BSA, NI Act, Domestic Violence Act, Criminal Rules of Practice, AP Excise and Gaming Acts, JJ Act, FSS Act, IT Act, POCSO and AP Forest Act, as listed in Notification 118/2026-RC.
Selection Method
Screening test, written examination and viva voce, then antecedent verification. Minimum written marks for viva (each of Paper I and II, and aggregate): OC/EWS 55% and 60%; BC 50% and 55%; SC/ST/PwBD 45% and 50%. Recruitment by transfer: 55% in each paper and 60% aggregate. Viva call ratio about 1:3. Final aggregate minimum: 60% OC/EWS, 55% BC, 50% SC/ST/PwBD (direct); 60% for transfer. Tie-break is older age, then higher qualification, then higher marks in that qualification.
Exam Centres
Screening test cities: Guntur, Kurnool, Rajahmundry (Rajamahendravaram), Tirupati, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam. Choose three in order of preference. The High Court may allot another centre. Written-exam venues are announced after the screening result. Centre-change requests are not entertained.
