Eligibility

GATE 2026: you must have appeared and qualified in the matching GATE 2026 paper: Electrical – EE, Civil – CE, Computer Science – CS. Only the GATE 2026 score (normalised marks out of 100) counts; GATE 2025 or older scores are not valid.
Electrical: full-time B.E./B.Tech/B.Sc (Engg.) in Electrical, Electrical (Power), Electrical and Electronics, Power Systems Engineering or Power Engineering (Electrical).
Civil: full-time B.E./B.Tech/B.Sc (Engg.) in Civil Engineering.
Computer Science: full-time B.E./B.Tech/B.Sc (Engg.) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Information Technology.
Marks: minimum 60% or equivalent CGPA (relaxed to pass marks for SC/ST/PwBD candidates against reserved posts, as per the advertisement).
Candidates who want to pursue further studies through GATE 2026, or who would need extra time to join, should not apply.

Age Limit

Maximum 28 years as on 31/12/2025.
Relaxation: OBC (NCL) 3 years and SC/ST 5 years (for posts reserved for that category); PwBD 10 years (UR/EWS), 13 years (OBC-NCL) and 15 years (SC/ST); ex-servicemen and riot victims as per Government of India rules.

Salary

During one-year training: basic pay ₹40,000 in the scale ₹40,000–3%–1,40,000 (IDA), plus IDA, HRA and perks at 12% of basic.
Approximate CTC: ₹11.00 lakh a year during training and ₹22.50 lakh a year after training (varies with location).
After training: absorbed as Engineer in the E2 scale, ₹50,000–3%–1,60,000 (IDA).
Service bond: complete training and serve at least 3 years after it. Bond amount ₹5,00,000 (General/OBC/EWS) or ₹2,50,000 (SC/ST/PwBD).

Exam Pattern

No separate written exam by POWERGRID. Your GATE 2026 normalised marks in the matching paper are used.
Weightage: GATE 2026 marks 85%, group discussion 3%, personal interview 12%.
You must qualify in GATE 2026 and in the personal interview separately to be empanelled.
