Eligibility

Education: 10th standard pass from a recognised board or institute.
Licence: valid driving licence for light and heavy motor vehicles (LMV and HMV).
Knowledge of motor mechanism: you should be able to fix minor defects in the vehicle.
Experience: at least 3 years driving light and heavy motor vehicles.
Desirable: 3 years' service as a Home Guard or Civil Volunteer.

Age Limit

18 to 27 years for UR and EWS candidates, as on 30.11.2026 (the closing date).
Relaxation: SC/ST 5 years, OBC 3 years. Government servants can apply up to 40 years, as per instructions. Ex-servicemen get relaxation as per rules.

Salary

Pay Level 2 of the 7th CPC Pay Matrix: ₹19,900–63,200 a month, plus admissible allowances.
Probation: 2 years.

Exam Pattern

Stage I – Theory (80 marks, 90 minutes, MCQ): general knowledge (20 questions), reasoning (15), arithmetic (15), and motor mechanism, traffic rules, signals and road sense (30). The paper is in English, Hindi and the local language where applicable.
Stage II – Practical (20 marks, 40 minutes): Paper I, identifying defects and minor repairs (10 marks); Paper II, heavy motor vehicle driving (10 marks).
Qualifying marks in each paper: SC/ST 33%, OBC/EWS 37%, others 40%.
The final merit list is based on total marks in both stages.
