Exam Pattern
Online written examination (computer-based), 2 hours, 100 marks. Qualifying: 33% in each subject and 40% in aggregate. Negative marking of 1/4 for each wrong MCQ. Unattempted questions are neutral. English composition is typed on the computer and is checked only if General Knowledge is 33% or more.
| Part | Type | Questions / tasks | Marks |
|---|---|---|---|
| General Knowledge | Objective | 50 questions, 1 mark each | 50 |
| English (objective portion) | Objective | 20 questions, 1 mark each | 20 |
| English composition | Subjective | Essay 10, letter 5, precis 5, Punjabi-to-English translation 10 | 30 |
Objective marks are normalised. Computer Proficiency Test is separate and qualifying: Spreadsheet, 10 marks, 10 minutes, 40% to pass; then English typing at 30 w.p.m. Speed = (words typed − mistakes) / 10. Typing is checked only if the spreadsheet score is 4 or more. CPT marks are not in the merit.
Syllabus
Prepare General Knowledge and English for the CBT. English composition is an essay of about 150 words, a letter, a precis and translation from Punjabi to English. The computer stage is a spreadsheet test and English typing at 30 words per minute. Use the official notice for the exact scheme. A demo test is uploaded about 15 days before the exam.
Selection Method
Qualify the CBT, then the Computer Proficiency Test (unless the competent authority exempts a candidate with the disability certificates listed in the notice, applied for within 15 days of the written result). Candidates who qualify both stages are called for original testimonials and interaction in the numbers the High Court decides. The select list is strictly on CBT merit. Ties go to the older candidate, then alphabetical order. CPT marks are not counted.

The examination can be held anywhere in Northern India. Date, city and shift are notified only on www.sssc.gov.in. No request to change centre, city, date or shift is entertained.
