The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) has issued Notification No. 11/2026 (Advertisement No. 747) dated 06.10.2026 for the Combined Civil Services Examination-IV (Group IV Services). It covers 6,574 vacancies across 46 post entries, including Village Administrative Officer, Junior Assistant, Bill Collector, Typist, Steno-Typist Grade III, Executive Officer Grade IV, Forest Watcher and Forest Guard with Driving Licence. Vacancies are tentative and can change before counselling. Vacancies for outstanding sportspersons are deducted where applicable; Typist and Steno counts include backlog vacancies. The department-wise split will be announced later by TNPSC.
Educational Qualification
- VAO, Junior Assistant, Bill Collector, Revenue Assistant, Tax Collector, Record Clerk: Minimum general educational qualification – a pass in SSLC (10th).
- Typist: SSLC plus Government Technical Examination in Typewriting in Tamil and English (Higher/Senior grade in one and Lower/Junior in the other, or as specified per post); a Computer on Office Automation certificate where prescribed.
- Steno-Typist Grade III / Personal Clerk / Shorthand Typist: SSLC plus Government Technical Examination in both Typewriting and Shorthand in Tamil and English as prescribed.
- Forest Guard with Driving Licence: qualification, driving licence and experience as given in the notification; Forest Watcher and Forest Guard also need the physical standards and endurance test.
- Adequate knowledge of Tamil is mandatory (SSLC/HSC/degree studied with Tamil, or the Second Class Language Test in Tamil).
Age Limit (as on 01 July 2026)
- Others (general): minimum 18 years (21 for VAO, Forest Watcher and Forest Guard with DL; 25 for Executive Officer Gr IV); must not have completed 30 years (35 for Executive Officer Gr IV).
- BC(OBCM)/BCM/MBC/DC: up to 32 years for most posts; SC/SC(A)/ST: up to 35 years for most posts; VAO up to 40 years for these communities. Several corporation posts have no maximum age for reserved communities.
- Persons with benchmark disability, ex-servicemen and destitute widows get further relaxation as per the tables in Para 4.1 of the notification.
Salary
Most posts are in Pay Level 8 of the Tamil Nadu pay matrix; Steno-Typist Grade III and Junior Inspector of Co-operative Societies are Level 10. TNPDCL Junior Assistant (Accounts) is Level 3 (₹19,500–62,000) and Handloom Weavers' Co-op Junior Assistant is ₹17,000–54,060 (EPF). Exact scale for each post is listed in the notification.

Minimum qualifying marks: 90 out of 300 for all communities. Parts B and C are evaluated only if the candidate scores at least 40% (60 marks) in Part A. Part A is set in Tamil; Parts B and C in Tamil and English.
Selection Process
- Single-stage OMR written examination; ranking on total marks of Parts A, B and C.
- Onscreen certificate verification (1:3 general / 1:2 reserved for VAO, Junior Assistant, Typist and Steno; 1:6 for forest posts).
- Forest Watcher / Forest Guard: Physical Standards Test and Endurance Test (25 km walk for men, 16 km for women/third gender in four hours) at Chennai.
- Physical certificate verification and counselling as per rank and reservation.
How to Apply
- Register on the One Time Registration (OTR) platform at tnpscexams.in (₹150, valid five years) if not already registered.
- Open the Group IV (CCSE-IV) application, choose the post option ('All the posts' or 'Posts other than Forest Guard / Forest Watcher') and fill in details.
- Upload photo, signature and required certificates, select exam centre and pay the ₹100 exam fee (unless exempt).
- Submit by 05/11/2026, 11:59 PM. Corrections are allowed from 09/11 to 11/11/2026.
