Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has released Advertisement No. 14/2026 dated 18 August 2026 for the fourth Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE 4.0) under the Education Department, Bihar. 32,388 School Teacher posts are notified for Primary, Middle, Secondary and Higher Secondary levels. Online applications on the BPSC OTR portal opened on 25 September 2026 and close on 26 October 2026. There is no interview.

Primary subjects include General 3,065, Urdu 757 and Bangla 25. Middle includes Mathematics and Science 2,188, Social Science 1,190, Hindi 1,096, English 1,929, Sanskrit 1,225 and Urdu 935. Secondary and Higher Secondary subject tables are in Advt 14/2026. Horizontal reservation for women is 50% at Primary and Middle and 35% at Secondary and Higher Secondary, within categories. Vacancies may change if the Education Department revises the indent.
Eligibility
Candidates must be Indian citizens and hold the NCTE qualification for the level. Special-school posts need an RCI-recognised qualification.

Teachers appointed and working before 2012 who passed the Dakshata Pariksha are exempt from TET. Candidates appearing in STET 2026 may apply but must pass STET 2026 before the Preliminary Examination, or the prelim admit card will not be issued. Choose only the subject in which the eligibility test was qualified. Reservation benefits apply to Bihar domicile candidates. A candidate may attempt this recruitment at most five times under the 2024 service rules.
Age Limit
Minimum age as on 1 August 2026: 18 years for Primary and Middle; 21 years for Secondary and Higher Secondary. Maximum age as on 1 August 2024: UR male 37, UR female 40, BC/EBC 40, transgender 42, SC/ST 42. PwD gets 10 years. Ex-servicemen get 3 years plus service, actual age not above 57 on the application date. Serving Bihar government employees get 5 years, limited to five attempts under that relaxation. Superannuation age is 60.
Pay
Primary starting pay ₹25,000, Middle ₹28,000, Secondary basic ₹31,000 and Higher Secondary basic ₹32,000 per month, plus admissible allowances. All four levels are non-gazetted school-teacher posts. The table illustrates the Primary starting pay with DA at 55% (official DA orders prevail).

Exam Pattern
Preliminary: objective General Studies, 150 marks, 2 hours, five options including option E for not attempting. Wrong answers and questions left blank without option E each deduct 1/3 mark. Qualifying marks (Bihar domicile where stated): General 40%, BC 36.5%, EBC 34%, SC/ST/women/PwD 32%.
Main: one 150-mark objective paper of 2 hours for the level (Paper 1 Primary, Paper 2 Middle, Paper 3 Secondary, Paper 4 Higher Secondary). Part I Language is qualifying at 30% and is not counted in merit. Primary merit uses Part II; other levels use Part II plus Part III. Same negative marking and category cut-offs as the preliminary. No re-evaluation and no interview.
Syllabus
Preliminary General Studies covers general science, national and international current events, Indian and Bihar history, geography including Bihar, Indian polity and economy, the freedom movement and Bihar’s role, and general mental ability. Main-exam subject syllabus is in Advt 14/2026 and on the BPSC website. Sections 2(A) to 2(R) of the notification fix subject combinations, including computer science, physical education and language posts.
Selection Method
Preliminary examination, then Main examination. Candidates called to the Main are about 2.5 to 10 times the vacancies, category-wise. Merit is on Main marks only. There is no interview. Guest teachers who meet the rules may get 5 marks per year of service, up to 25 marks, added at both stages as per the cited orders. Choose up to 38 districts in preference order. Document verification is by the Education Department.

- Complete One Time Registration at https://bpsconline.bihar.gov.in/ with a working email and mobile number.
- Link DigiLocker Meri Pehchan if prompted, then log in at bpsconline.bihar.gov.in/candidate/login.
- Fill the six-step profile, upload a live webcam photo and Hindi and English signatures, then lock the profile.
- Open New Application, select Advertisement 14/2026, choose one subject and up to 38 districts.
- Pay the fee by 25 October 2026 and submit the application by 26 October 2026. Download the confirmation. The subject cannot be changed after successful fee payment unless the payment is cancelled and the process is repeated.
